The latest Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors UK (RICS) housing market survey found that sellers in the country are optimistic about selling their property but buyers remain thin on the ground. Scottish house moving costs outstrip prices, says survey

The cost of moving home in Scotland has risen faster than house prices over the past decade, according to new research. A Bank of Scotland survey suggested the average expenses associated with moving rose by 69% from £4,125 in 2001 to £6,972 in 2011. The percentage figure was greater than the 64% rise in house prices over the same period. The survey indicated the cost of moving home was now at its highest level since the peak of the housing market in 2007. A BANK stopped a mother of two from selling her home for €500,000 because they wanted a higher price so she could repay her debts. But the house has gone back on the market with a lower asking price of €450,000. In April this year Jillian Godsil agreed to sell Raheengraney House near Shillelagh, Co Wicklow, for €500,000 But her lender, the Bank of Scotland (Ireland), demanded a higher selling price because she owes €900,000 on the house. Over 21,319 UK residential properties on the market for £1 million in the UK.

Research commissioned by Investec Specialist Private Bank reveals there were 21,319 UK residential properties on the market for GBP1 million or more during the second quarter of 2011.  This is 10% higher than the same period in 2010, and 8% more than the first three months of this year. Collectively, they were worth over GBP47.76 billion, which equates to GBP2.24 million per property. Investec Specialist Private Bank believes many of these properties will require mortgages, but a number of lenders only provide finance against the value of the property you are looking to buy.
