House prices fell in February, a report has said, but at the slowest rate in 18 months as sales continued to rise. A balance of 13% of estate agents reported falling prices in February, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) said, with London being the only part of the country to register an increase in property prices. On average areas with a Michelin starred restaurant have house prices some 42% more than the surrounding region’s average, and a third of these have asking prices that are typically 50% above the regional average. The value of the UK’sprivate housing stock rose by £1.8 trillion, some 84%, in the decade to 2011, according to new research from the Halifax. The value of the housing stock at the end of 2011 is estimated at £3.9 trillion, up from £2.1 trillion in 2001. The increase of £1.8 trillion over the decade is equivalent to £68,500 per household in the owner occupied and private rented sectors in the UK. Average property in Scotland being sold for £9,000 less than the asking price.

Homebuyers are still offering less than the advertised cost of a property despite more sellers dropping the asking price, according to a new report. The average property sold for around £9,000 less than the asking price in the three months to December, the s1homes Scottish House Price report said. It found the average asking price fell by 3.33% to £166,494 but the average price properties actually sold for also decreased from £163,068 to £157,174. The Bournemouth-based company behind housebuilder McCarthy & Stone has grown turnover to more than £230m over the past year. Holding company Mandarin 1 now plans to grow sales of its retirement properties to 2,000 in 2015. In its annual accounts Mandarin 1, which owns 100 per cent of the share capital in all ten McCarthy & Stone businesses, said turnover had grown from £203.3m in 2010 to £230.6m in the year to August 2011. British property prices flat in 2011 but regional divide widens

Average house prices in Britain have remained mostly flat in 2011 while the division between North and South has widened, according to figures released by property website Zoopla. The average house price finished 2011 at £221,331, down a modest £854 (0.23%) from the same time one year ago. But regional contrasts have widened.
